Bygone brands – American Eagle June 3, 2021 (updated June 2026)
This Laverda 750 twin was one of the flagship models of a short-lived enterprise in the USA, which rebranded a number of bikes from several makers, including Italjet and Kawasaki. It including a range of dirt models. American Eagle was set up in 1966 by John McCormack, who had worked with the USA divisions of Suzuki and Honda. The company went belly-up circa 1972.
Ian Falloon
covers the machine in depth, at his Substack feed. We can't help thinking Laverda had a
better grasp of how to present the bike – see the two ads
below. Of course the SF and SFC were a great success and
are now treasured as classics. And Falloon's
book on Laverda twins.
MCNews has a photogallery on the American Eagle and the 150 Renegade – see it here. Motocross Action features the 405 Talon, here.
