Motorcycle Investor mag News feed January 2020 Egli Vincent on the market, 29 January Godet-built Egli Vincent in Black Lightning spec - a modest lottery win would cover it at US$109,000 (Au$161,000). According to seller Classic Avenue, the owner (Mars Webster) commissioned the bike from Patrick Godet in September of 2001 to 998cc Black Shadow specification. New crankcases were provided by Andy Molnar and housed all new internals and a 4-speed gearbox with a dry multi-plate clutch. Amal concentric 30mm carbs mix fuel and air, while a Godet-designed exhaust expel gases. Mars updated a few things during his ownership, including an upgrade to the starter motor. This brand-new engine was mounted in Godet’s TIG welded 100mm Reynolds 531 spine frame. 35mm Ceriani GP forks up front with Fontana magnesium front brake hold a 19” front wheel laced with stainless spokes. At the rear a polished swingarm attached Maxton shocks to the frame and hold an 18” wheel with a Black Lightning-style brake. Aluminium fenders, fiberglass single seat unit and fairing with an aluminium gas tank complete the package. The tank was originally ordered in British Racing Green but was repainted black at some point. Aluminum control levers are by Amal and the instruments by Smiths, the latter comprising a 5” Chronometric speedometer and 3” tachometer.
Honda NS400R - the forgotten eighties stroker? 28 January Honda NS400R for sale on Bikesales at a lot less than the equivalent RZ500 or RG500. Suzuki Titan racer for sale, Jan 25 This Suzuki classic racer looks like a good example of how it's potentially cheaper to buy an existing project rather than start one from scratch. The 1971 T500 claims to have had no expense spared in the build and is up for auction in New Zealand, with a starting price of NZ$10,000 (Au$9700). Big expectaions for Big Tank Crocker, 20 January Crocker motorcycles continue to pull staggering numbers, with a 1940 Big Tank listed by Bonhams for an estimated US$450-550,000 (Au$650-800,000). That tends to back up the suspicion that some motorcycles end up being investment vehicles rather than a bike. Bonhams' listing for the January 23 auction notes the irony that this example was once sold by a salvage yard for $50 - albeit during the 1950s. Crocker's production was diverted to making Douglas aircraft components during World War II, and after the war the company decided there was more money to be made in other manufacturing before it was eventually sold to Borg Warner. See the lot details here. Crocker profile. Secret Bullets, 18 January

That’s when we started to get glimpses of the 750 F4, the first bike the company had produced since production and racing shut down in 1980...more here. 1908 Indian racer on the block, 18 January Proof that the fundamental layout of a race bike hasn't changed all that much in over a century, is this 1908 Indian. Unrestored, it's running a 60ci (1000cc) V-twin with automatic inlet valves (vacuum operated) and mechanical exhausts. It was said to be good for around 65mph (over 100km/h). Braking is an old bicycle-style freewheel unit in the rear hub. Mecum auctions this one later in the month, in Las Vegas. Contrasting fours at Las Vegas, 7 January The annual auction frenzy in Las Vegas, during the second half of January, always throws up a host of interesting machinery. We were struck by these two contrasting inline four motorcycles, a first-edition sandcast Honda CB750-Four and a 1911 Pierce Arrow 700 with four pots and shaft drive, offered by Mecum. Both were quick machines for their day, but the Pierce Arrow would have taken a fair bit of courage, we think, given the roads at the time and the probably less than stellar suspension, plus a lonely rear drum brake.
